Privacy policy

Last updated 16 October 2026. This is a plain-language policy; it is not shorter than it needs to be.

The Chrome extension

  • Captures clicks and screenshots only in the tab you chose, only between Start and Stop, and never while paused.
  • Records the label of a field you typed in, never the text you typed. Password fields are never captured.
  • Stores page addresses with common secret-like parameters (tokens, session ids, codes) removed.
  • Keeps the recording on your computer (browser storage) until you import it into the editor. It does not upload anything on its own.
  • Does not use analytics inside the extension.

Your guides and screenshots

  • After import, guides live in your browser until you choose “Save to account”. Exports (PDF, Markdown) are generated in your browser.
  • Saved guides and images are stored in a private bucket in our database provider (Supabase, hosted in the region shown in your account). Images are served through expiring signed links; only workspace members and people you share with can obtain them.
  • Redaction rewrites the image and deletes the original from our storage.
  • Deleting a guide deletes its screenshots. Deleting your account deletes your workspace, guides and images.

Account data

  • Email address (for sign-in links), workspace name, plan and usage counters.
  • Billing is handled by our payment provider; we store your customer and subscription ids, never card numbers.
  • Optional AI actions send the text of the step you selected (never screenshots) to the configured AI provider to produce a rewrite; the result is shown to you and not stored by us unless you apply it.

Product analytics

We count a small set of product events (signup completed, extension connected, recording completed, guide edited, exported or shared, pricing viewed, checkout completed) as daily totals. These counts never include guide content, screenshots, recorded page addresses or your identity.

Your rights and contact

You can export your guides at any time, delete guides and images yourself, and ask us to delete your account. Email hello@screenmate.ai for access, correction or deletion requests. Depending on where you live, data-protection law (such as the GDPR or India’s DPDP Act) may give you additional rights; we honour them regardless of location.
